Myth - babysitters and event sitters are synonomous.
Fact - While event sitters may have the same qualifications as babysitters, including First Aid/CPR Certification, background screening, and previous childcare experience, event sitters provide much more than a typical babysitter.
According to Wikipedia.com, "Babysitters are usually ages 11 and above. The type of work for babysitters also varies, from watching a sleeping child, to playing games, preparing meals, teaching the child to read, or even driving (if the age is right), depending on the agreed upon terms and determined by parental permission.
In some countries various organizations produce courses for babysitters, mainly focusing on child safety and first aid appropriate for infants and children. These classes or courses can be provided at local hospitals and sometimes even schools. These classes can equip the babysitter with information to keep both the child, or children, and sitter safe in various health and weather scenarios."
Babysitters normally provide care in the home.
Event Sitters provide professional childcare service at adult events. They come to the event location to entertain children for the entire event. Event Sitters are 18 years and older and have extensive childcare experience. They are typically experienced babysitters, nannies, preschool teachers, Educational providers and/or Education majors, and, a lot of times, are parents with a plethora of child-rearing experience.
Event Sitters are trained in childcare safety and follow safety policy/procedures of the event sitting organization. Event sitters bring entertainment to the event venue to keep the children engaged for the entire event time. Entertainment includes age-appropriate activities ranging from toys, arts/crafts, gaming systems to magicians, face painters, caricature artists, balloon artists, etc. Think of event sitting services as childcare on wheels - they provide event childcare at the venue's location. They come equipped with everything needed for children entertainment as long as their service is needed.
Event Sitters are also insured. They display professionalism in fact and appearance.
Anyone can hire a babysitter to sit in a room and monitor children for however long the parents/event hosts need them to, but event sitters are not just monitoring children. Event Sitters provide a structured environment and has prepared activities for the children to partake in. There is a schedule of activities prepared in advance of the event. The event sitting experience is an engaging one - it is one of interaction, learning through creating, and meeting new friends through the group childcare experience.
The great thing about event sitting is that parents can bring their children with them to the event and still enjoy themselves without worrying about rushing back to relieve the babysitter or calling to check on the children. The children are just a room away from the adult event. Event Sitters provide parents with a peace of mind, knowing their children are nearby.
Event Sitters specialize in group childcare at events. They have a passion for working with children and enjoy every minute of their job.
Event Sitting is not the typical babysitting agency - the value of event sitting is created when:
- Children are provided with a safe and fun atmosphere in a group childcare setting
- Adults can enjoy their time at the event, child- and worry-free
- An event is both "Family Friendly" and "Adult Only"
- Convenience, peace of mind, and happy children/parents are the result.

We had an awesome time at our first ever bridal show – Receptions, Inc. Bridal Showcase 2012 – on January 22, 2012! Ellen and I had a bundle of emotions preparing for the show, including, but not limited to, nervousness, anxiousness, excitement, and a little bit of apprehension. After arriving to the showcase at 9am, we knew there wasn’t anything to it, but to do it!
Your Event Sitters learned a tremendous deal about exhibiting and the guests that visit the showcases. A few takeaways from our experience include:
• Education is key – a number of people have no clue as to what event sitters do and the benefits that are provided by our service. Educate, educate, educate!
• People are not as receptive to new ideas as others.
• Many brides come into showcases, knowing what vendors they want to talk to. If your product or service is not one they are interested in, you will be bypassed.
• Parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles have an appreciation for the event sitting business and understand the value of our service more than people with no children.
• You never know when you will be in the right place at the right time. We received a number of inquiries regarding employment opportunities with our organization.
• Working with your best friend and having family support is one of the best feelings in the world!
All in all, we believe our show was a success! We are glad we had the opportunity to display who Your Event Sitters is. Our takeaway from this experience: hard work pays off, eventually!
We love what we do and want to thank all the brides who stopped by our booth, listened to what we had to say, and appreciated our value! We can’t wait until the next one!

Wedding sitting took form in the early 2000's, with the idea of allowing parents to enjoy weddings child- and worry-free by providing on-site sitting service to occupy children in a separate room, while the bride/groom and all the wedding guests enjoyed the wedding in peace.
We all know children, especially the little ones, can get bored and fussy easily. They can make messes and create a chaotic environment in some situations. Wedding sitters are on-site to allow kids to be kids, while brides, grooms, and guests were able to relish in the event and not lose focus on the reason for the wedding, the joining of the bride and groom in holy matrimony.
Event sitting evolved from the same concept. Why not bring children along for any and every event, not just weddings? Event sitters can provide organized "chaos" for the children to enjoy the event just as much as their parents. Event sitters provide on-site group entertainment for children for the duration of the entire event. Weddings are still on the menu, but event sitting allows sitting/entertainment services from the boardroom to the Duke Energy Center conventions.
The top 10 reasons of event sitting at your event are:
1 - Provides a safe and fun for children
2 - Increases event attendance
3 - Provides peace at events for the adults
4 - Promotes a family friendly atmosphere
5 - Relieves babysitting stress for parents
6 - Convenience
7 - Helps to relieve "Parent Guilt" as the children are on-site with the parents
8 - Eliminate child boredom
9 - Reduces fussiness, irritation, messes, etc. at the main event
10 - Provides a stress-free solution to finding activities for children at the event
Although it is a fairly untapped market in Cincinnati, be prepared to see an increase of adult-only, yet family friendly events in 2012!
